Npower High Bills

I live in a 2 bedroom semi, my electricity bills seem to be a lot more than i expected with npower, i pay around £72 a month.

Me my partner and 18 month old daughter live here .. ....

We have a gas cooker, gas central heating.

My laptop is on for most of the day so i can imagine that doesnt help, we have a tv on most days from 4.30 till 11, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, digital alarm clock, phone chargers, washer and dryer and lights .... thats about it

Does this seem a lot or is it just cos of my laptop ?

Your laptop will use very little.

Most use about 25 watts on average. So left on 24/7 it will cost less than £2 a month.

£72 a month is about average across UK.

I've just dumped npower electricity for edf. I live in yorkshire which is npower's home region(they used to be yorkshire electricity) and as a result they keep the prices high hoping that inertia stops people from switching. The last straw came when npower trumpeted their last set of price reductions. Everywhere else got a cut that dwarfed the tiny one that those in Yorkshire got.
You should use the price comparison websites because I'm sure there will be many companies cho are cheaper.
  • My sister has just had her electricity bill from npower and i think there is something dodgy with her bill as well.

Last year they sent her a bill for over £1000 and nearly gave her a heart attack, she phoned and said it could not be right, her bills had been around £150 per quarter then suddenly this huge bill, they agreed it did not look right and said they would revise it. They did and sent her a bill for around £200 and she thought that was still too high.

Now her latest bill has come in and it is £273, they have told her to take meter readings at the same time every day for a week and then to phone with the readings, i'm not exactly sure what this will accomplish.

I don't think she uses that much electric.

I on the other hand have a pre payment meter with EDF and put £50 a month on my electric meter and i would say i use loads more electric than my sister and i also pay a standing charge every day, which she doesn't.

She is switching to EDF as soon as this is sorted.

Since i switched to EDF i have had about a dozen visits from a lady from npower trying to get me to switch back, saying they were cheaper, i got so sick of it i did agree, but then later changed my mind when EDF rang me and explained about HOST companies and that npower is the HOST for the area i live.

I wish there was someplace you could go and get all the prices for all the different companies because when they knock on your door they ALL say they are the cheapest, had a guy from scottish power here last week claiming he could cut my £50 a month down to £24. :rotfl:
