Have you provided NPower with any personal information such as full name, previous address and date of birth?
  • The letting agent has, we have now started to switch suppliers as well

That could be a problem. See the many posts on this board about how NPower are now furnishing the credit reference agencies with details about your account - and how, being one of the most incompetent companies in Britain, are sometimes flagging up erroneous defaults and thereby compromising the ability of account holders to obtain credit.

I'm not sure about the account detail you've posted. There's probably something in their T&Cs that permit them to do this - others will hopefully clarify.

You are well advised to move supppliers, and when you do, do it in writing and don't provide anything other than basic personal information (for the reasons given above). Surname, initial and address is all you should give. At the moment EDF do not report to CRAs, but EOn and British Gas do, so these last two should be avoided.

See the last post in this thread, as a typical example of what's happening with NPower:

  • I see, the account is in my partners name (a Miss and the house is too) and she is credit gold star, never been in debt or had any debts against her, she does not own a credit card and always uses a debit card or pays cash so unless it is because she has no credit history
