Hi, I am experiencing problems connecting to wifi on my iphone and Kindle Fire. I got wifi on my laptop quickly but just can't see where I am going wrong with the other two items. Please can you help?

If your router was supplied by your ISP, you could try posting on your ISP's community forum. It might also help if you mention the model of your router.0

Does your new router have two seperate networks being broadcast? Some have 5G and a normal wifi network (have seen this on new BT and Virgin routers) - try the other one if you havent already...0

I am grateful to both the above for their input. I should have put more details on my original post though. When my original router, a Belkin one, suddenly stopped working, I was desperate to get back on to the internet, and for various reasons I wasn't able to go to the local shops to buy another one. I looked online (on my iphone 3G) and saw one for sale on Gumtree. It was unused and seemed perfect for me. I got it this morning and immediately tried to set it up. I didn't use the CD that came with it, as it was for connecting to AOL broadband but just carried on. I was able to connect to the internet but when I tried the settings on my iphone and Kindle, it didn't work! As I listen to BBC iplayer off and on during the day, this was my main reason for getting another router asap!! Perhaps I need to cut my losses and buy another router. I would be delighted if someone could suggest anything else I can do before I do this. Sorry for the rambling tale.....:eek:0

Have you used WEP encryption on the router's wifi? IIRC iPhone only supports WPA0

Thank you for replying. The router is D-Link, broadband wireless G ADSL2+ Router. My iphone and kindle are not showing any network connection. Onwards and upwards....0

Have you WiFi enabled on the iPhone and Kindle? Apologies for the simple question, but, best eliminate it early on eh?;):)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

can you access the dlink settings page via a wired connection it may be a hidden ssid or not even have wireless turned on0

I was testing a D-Link router over the weekend and found the Wi-Fi was off by default. You may need to connect a Ethernet cable up and log into the routers setup pages, the IP address, user ID and password should be on the label on the bottom.0

Thanks again to all who replied to my query. I solved it by getting another router through Freecycle! I managed to set it up, smartphone, Kindle, laptop all working within 15 minutes. I am now a very happy bunny :j0
