im planning to go to the canaries in july.
looking at options for spending money and was thinking of applying for the halifax clarity card.
From reading the info, am I right, I can use it like a debit card ie stick it in a ATM withdraw cash then pay it off when i return home?
Anyone know what the cash withdrawal limits are etc?
are ATM machines on fuerteventura free?
hope someone can help . i normally just take a wad of cash but thought this might be easier

You can use it in ATMs like a debit card - interest charged until you pay off in full (if you pay in full on the normal payment date there will be additional interest for the couple of weeks-ish between statement and payment dates on your next statement).
Withdrawal limit is £500 a day (currently just over €600) - overall limit is half of your credit llimit. You can of course transfer cash to the Clarity as soon as the withdrawal appears on your statement if you have access to internet banking.
I haven't found an ATM on Fuerte which charge extra - suspect it will be like over here with maybe ATMs in clubs/shops charging. Thing to watch - you will get a screen asking if you want to be charged in pounds or euros - choose euros. They make it fairly obvious these days (unlike several years ago) with 'no for euros' and 'yes for pounds' buttons.
Just a thought - if you have a Santander 123 account, you can get euros at the Visa interbank rate from any Santander ATM. In this case, the Clarity would still be a good card for purchases (and of course any non-Santander ATM, other countries).0 -
cheers manathome, it is pretty much as i thought then. im hoping to use it mainly to withdraw cash as i like to have option to haggle etc. having said that i guess i could pay for trips/meals etc on the card.
good news about the ATM not charging...makes it even cheaper ! :-)0 -
Remember to choose to be charged in euro when the ATM asks euro or GBP.0
