Printer problems

My printer tells me that the cartridges installed in it aren't genuine HP ones. I bought them from Tesco so would be surprised if that was the case.

I also get poor print quality, even though there is supposedly still ink in the cartridges. When I do a test page the print comes out perfectly but when I try to print again I have the same problem. It is only the colour cartridges that it 'thinks' aren't genuine but I get the problem with printing in black also.

Any ideas anyone?

Take the cartridges out and put them back in a couple of times.
Give the contacts on the cartridge a gentle wipe to clean them.
