Damaged Hudl Screen - Fault not damage

We bought a hudl from Tesco direct in October last year for our youngest son (as an Xmas present). We also bought a cover to prevent any mishaps! Everything was fine till about 8 weeks ago when I noticed a crack running from the left-hand edge to bottom edge of the screen. This hudl has not been dropped!! Went into Tesco to ask how we could go about exchanging this faulty machine and were told we could being it in an exchange so long as we had the receipt (fairly standard practise). I found said receipt and decided to back up the info before taking in - this is when I noticed another 2 cracks at the top of the screen. In between going into Tesco and backing up, the hudl hadn't been used at all! So, went into Tesco last week with receipt and was told I could only "hardline exchange" the item if the box was also brought back. Took this in the following day, only to be told that the hudl couldn't be exchanged without a ref number from technical help-desk - customer service lady rang them, only to be told they couldn't exchange as the screen damage was accidental. Is there anyway I can prove to the tech department that there must ben an underlying fault with the screen as the damage is def not accidental. I hasten to add that I wouldn't be going down this route if I knew this damage was our fault! I don't want to be stuck with a tablet we can't fix or exchange/refund. Thanks for any pointers given.

Can you post some pictures of these cracks on this site - preferably close up, together with pictures of the device that will show that it has not been dropped? Then we can see if others have reported similar issues.
Hoping that we can help....I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -

It doesn't have to have been dropped to get cracked, more likely left in a bag and had something else on it at an awkward angle.
My sons friend did that to a small tablet. It was in a rucksack, he took it to the gym changed out of street shoes into gym shoes, put the whole lot in a Gym Locker with coats etc and the tablet must have ended up at a strange angle as when he picked it up the screen had a small crack. Over the next week the crack got worse and new smaller ones appeared until it became unusable..I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yup SOOLIN, I agree. Difficult to see how a device this this could spontaneously develop a series of cracks. A quick check of the web reveals that cracks on a HUDL is a rare phenomena unless occasioned by being dropped or stepped upon. Perhaps Tesco were correct if the "cover" that you purchased did not include accidental physical damage?
However, it is possible that you can claim on hour house contents insurance - do you have the "accidental damage" cover? If so, claim on that....I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -
Usually cracks on these things are due to being dropped, having something sat on it (I once stood on my Kindle and it broke instantly, hubby broke another by having it in his bag!), or being too forceful with the charging lead."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."
