Barcelona or Gerona!!!!

Looking for a few days in Spain on Teletext Holidays I have noticed
that when we have previously flown to the Costa Brava and stayed in various Hotels, we have always landed at Gerona Airport.
Looking at these Hotels the flight details say Barcelona and the transfer would cost a considerable amount as it is so far away.
I am puzzled!
Is there a logical answer ?
Thank you.

Girona is well worth a least a couple of days anyway.

I want to fly to Gerona and find it hard to understand why I cannot find a package that flies there when we have used this route for several years.

A quick look at the Ryanair website would have give you the answer - no, but most flights are to European destinations, although there are still flights from Leeds/Bradford, Bournemouth and Bristol (and displaying a few more, East Midlands, Stanstead and Luton).

Manchester to GIRona are still available, Wednesdays are cheap. Gerona may lead you to Italy

Even Lonely Planet call it GERONA
    http://www.lonelyplanet.com/maps/europe/spain/gerona/

I think Thomsons still fly there but not cheap.
Most dynamic packages may well use Barcelona as there is much more competition. Really, just Ryanair to GRO.
If its North Costa Brava, ie Blanes upwards then its maybe worth paying a bit more to fly to GRO. If its South Costa Brava, ie Callela Costa or Costa Dorauda (Dorada)then BCN is a reasonable option too.
