moving a mystery plant

Last year a plant which I hadn't planted grew in the centre of one side of my raised bed. Much googling and showing samples to plant growers led me to believe it to be Golden Rod. If it didn't grow so tall and overhang the path I would leave it where it is as the bees adore it but I need to move it. I am aware it is probably a weed but for the bees I want to keep it. Do you think if I transplanted it to a large pot and moved it to my small gravelled east facing front garden it would be happy?

Not especially happy IMHO, these plants like ample sun and pots tend to get dry which it won't enjoy

It's usually grown at the back of a border, probably for the reasons you've discovered. Also, you'd normally move it whilst dormant (late autumn or early spring) for the best chances of success.

Thanks for both those replies. My original plan was to plant it in a corner but as this corner doesn't get a great deal of sun will have to rethink that for Autum

It seems my mysterious plant is not Golden rod although it is growing in exactly the same place as the Golden Rod did last year. This plant has leaves which look like miniature oak leaves rather than the strap like leaves of last years plant. There are a few flower buds which are a fuchia coloured. Wierder and weirder. I wonder if it could be a geranium which was obscured by the Golden Rod last year.
