npower - gas meter safety inspection

    What's it to you when the OP can allow access?


    This is a miscommunication between the supplier and the agent. Nothing to do with the OP. OP has called the agent at least twice to make an appointment (it's in their timeline) - the agent won't do it because the OP is not on their list. Why on earth would there be more to it?

    Because, suppliers would nt be sending off emails dictating what there next steps are, using locksmiths to gain entry etc, without it being a last resort. Of course, if all suppliers sent off emails like that the first thing the occupiers would do is to switch in revenge.Thats precisely what the OP is now engaged in doing. Npowers own workforce, Meter Plus who I know always try very hard to read meters on a 6 monthly cyclic basis, ( they go for a high 80% access rate ) would have been knocking for access to the meters for well over 2 years to escalate it to "must read " status. I am quite amazed about the wording of their email. The OP will be allowed to switch even though he has nt had his meter inspected in 2 years. The Gas meter inspection will remain with the new supplier, however the electric meter inspection will be reset and start again. Thats just another anomaly which is ridiculous, as its allowing electric meters to go on forever without safety checks

    NPOWER. That's the root of the problem. When, when, when, is someone going to do something about this scandalous organisation? It is long past the time when they should have lost their licence to supply energy.

    No? Take a look down this board - how many are complaints about Npower getting things wrong? Of course they'll send emails like the one above if the computer says so. The computer is wrong. Or something hasn't been sent that should have.


    You do realise Npower actually have an apology on their website for the mistakes they've made due to their computer system.


    Why would someone come on here asking for one kind of help when they actually want something else? If the OP did want to stop someone inspecting their meter I'm sure there are better fora than this to ask that question.

    They dont send off emails threatening a locksmith and forceable entry without it being at their final attempt. Of course, If I had recieved that email I would be switching supplier pretty quick. I think that maybe the OP maybe was well over the 2 year mark or possibly he s a relatively new occupier and the former occupiers had denied access for many years,. I have seen that many times where I turn up for a "must read" status reading for many years and only get in when the occupiers leave. the OP does right to switch suppliers if Npower are dishing those sort of letters out merely to do a 2 year inspection. Its not normal practice for any supplier to upset good paying customers

    This is obviously untrue.

    I know this because n power have sent the same letter to me.

    Hilarious really because the meter is outside the house.

    Go figure, and I have never tried to deny access as that would be silly, cant stand outside day and night. Oh and no one else denied them access either, I been here nearly 2 decades, meter always been outside.
    63 mortgage payments to go.

    Thank to everyone who did understand :) Just worried I'll come home one day to find a mess made and a bill for their 'work'.

    I have been in this house less than two years (August 2012) and the meter has been seen in that time by the previous supplier. This is npowers first attempt but maybe they only make one? I've been with them for around six months and they have sent no-one that I am aware of.

    Is assuming everyone is guilty until proven innocent part of the License to Supply rules, or is this just more of a tradition in your industry? Your accusatory attitude stinks of exactly that which has annoyed me about npower. I switched because I do not want this to happen ever again. Another supplier can hopefully do better.

    It also says that entering someones property is a last resort and only entered into after a very lengthy process as its very costly to the suppliers..In my experience its either a very large debt or no payments or suspect tampers/bypass which leads to getting the warrants and locksmiths into action

    I think with their system and all must be reads been booked via leeds is causing the issue
    Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    So can I do anything or just hope they see sense?

    You claim it's not nPower ... so it seem superfluous to say they've not been to read you meter for the past 6-7 months.

    Unless of course it is npower...

    Switching supplier may or may not (in theory it shouldn't) affect the requirement for the meter to be inspected.

    Meters are usuallly owned by a meter operator, and the supplier of your choice leases that meter, so the meter owner still knows when it was last inspected/installed.

    I'm sure if you give nPower a call, whether or not they are your supplier, you can quickly resolve this matter ... that is if you want to ;)
