Is there an energy supplier that you can enter your monthly gas and electric meter readings online and also pay online?

Sick of receiving incorrect bills and trying to speak to scottish power on the phone!

Thanks :j

Do you mean enter your readings online every month and then pay the exact amount for what you've used? As opposed to enter your meter readings online (doing the supplier's job for him) and still pay a fixed amount?

If the former - I don't know, actually. I get the impression this is not what the suppliers want. Also, you wouldn't get a DD discount.

DD discount? :rotfl:It's actaully a "fine" for not using DD.

British Gas will let you do this.

  • Thanks Joyful, yes its called "energy smart ", something a lot of people would like to do, but can you tell me if the "energy smart " option, an exact direct debit of the monthly amount used, would still qualify for BG s cheaper tarrifs such as the May 2015 fix ? I get a lot of people on my rounds ( usually the elderly ) who are fearful of a direct debit, monthly or quarterly and are stuck on the higher tariffs, Standard Variable or Fix and Fall

I would suggest checking that online. I work with Pay as you go meters so not up to speed on credit tariffs.

Just checked and it says it is available with the majority of tariffs excepting PAYG.

    Who have you looked at?

I think many suppliers probably have online account management nowadays, and even some of the smaller ones without such functionality have the ability to supply meter readings on-line.

Getting a bill to pay as a result may be a little more troublesome.
I know SSE provide a new bill, whereas nPower usuallly don't

EDF will produce you a new bill (usually, but that may be a day or so later)

I think new Eon customers get billed every month anyway, so all you need to do in ensure you give them meter reading to bill against :)

All the big 6, and some of the smaller suppliers, have a pay on receipt of bill tariff, but that is usaully quarterly (Except Eon for new customers, where it is monthly as already stated)

But paying a set amount monthly by DD is often a cheaper option than paying on receipt of bill.

Use a comparison site to see how much you could save paying monthly by DD rather than on receipt of bill.
