Error Message, Cannot find config/sys

This may have been posted before, so is so forgive me.

My hp laptop suddenly stopped, while in use, and then on reboot displayed an error message on the lines of 'cannot find windows/system32/config.system"

It says to use the cd to reinstall the file, but as I am away in South Africa at the moment I do not have any disks with me.

Is there anything to do, bearing in mind mind my limited access to resources, to get myself up and running again.

I am able to access the set up screen via F10 and also the options menu to start in safe mode etc.

Thanks
Filiss

You need to repair the install, can you post the exact message? There was a virus/ worm out there that could cause this issue. Without the O/S CD I don't think you can access the files that need copying onto the drive.
    You could try this

  • Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

I have managed to find a contact of a friend etc etc who has taken the problem on and so all is now sorted.
