Free weights and bodyweight exercises, sooo much better than just cardio!

I am on a weight loss and fitness journey myself and have currently lost two stone. But I reached that ever painful plateau where nothing works to budge those remaining pounds no matter how much I restrict my intake AND going to the gym.
Then I joined a muscle gym and started lifting weights. It was most definitely the best thing I've ever decided to do. Although you don't see fat magically disappear, your body transforms into a more toned shape over all which is great to see!
I think with weights the misconception is that many people think it will turn women bulky but it doesn't unless you train incredibly hard and lift A LOT of weight plus everything including an insane lean muscle diet.
I would recommend it to anyone! It's empowering too and I think the biggest change in me has been a boost to my confidence. In three months I haven't lost as much weight as I would have hoped with clean eating BUT I have lost the inches.
I mainly eat healthily but not in a crazy restrictive way because food is an important part of my life (and my future business) so I allow myself treats and I learn to balance meals properly. I don't allow myself carbs with my evening meal however because I unfortunately don't get to sit down to eat until around 10pm at night.Does the walker choose the path or the path the walker?

I definitely, definitely agree with lifting weights. Like NatMast, I have lost so many inches off of everywhere since I started. No more goo hoarding!

Wow some really good advice from you all, thank you so much. Sorry about the delay in posting but i've been away and just catching up with myself now
I will download that app. Sounds really good. As for weights, I really don't want to spend any money on a gym. I used to be a member of one and I hated it. I'm thinking of starting running though..hmm we'll see lol
And i'll weigh my muesli too later tonight for tomorrow morning. I had no idea !!
Having been on holiday, the plan has slipped A LOT but i'm back in the game now.... promise

You sound like you are off to a good start. Be careful with some of the 'healthy' food as it wont be low calorie eg the muesli as already mentioned but also smoked mackerel is high. Don't cut out all your treats so maybe keep a gin and tonic some evenings as a small one with slimline tonic isnt too bad."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Hiya Flissh
I had no idea that fruit counts as carbsAnd I'm with you on the 9-5 and vino trap.
I'm starting from today...new day, new positive Pix
Typical that Mr Pix has made a roast dinner for tonight with steamed syrup sponge for pudding...not the best choice..but i could have just a few teaspoonfuls, to be polite **small cough**
On an upbeat note, I did buy muesli for breakfast tomorrow..... AND we're going for a walk tomorrow so it's all good!
Be careful of muesli. Like almost all the breakfast cereals it has sugar added. The problem with fruit is the fructose - sugar - but it's better than the syrup sponge. Fruit contains fructose but it also contains other things which are good for you. Syrup sponge is pure carb, not good at all.
Mr Pix should be on your side. Didn't you tell him what you want to do? No good telling us here, tell your nearest and dearest, because he has the power to help/facilitate/encourage your efforts, or to scupper them completely!Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I'm following this as I am doing the same!
If you fancy trying a work out with a difference, give aerial classes ago if you have some local.
I recently started them, both aerial silks and hoops, I have never done a work out like it! The strength and tone improvement is amazing in just four weeks I notice such a difference!
Just if you fancied something a bit different and very fun but hard exercise its an idea
I have fallen slightly in love with it!£0.00/£2014 saved!

I have never heard of aerial classes; maybe they haven't percolated as far as Devon yet."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Quick update. As Pootle advised, I've been weighing my muesli, and downloaded the "myfitnesspal" app last week. It only allows me 1200 calories a day, and I agree with Pirateyqueen.... i'm gobsmacked at how quickly the calories stack up. It's interesting to see just how many calories are in certain foods, and how much over the recommended amounts of fat and carbs i take in!
Going to weigh myself every week and then update my sig on here monthly. When I get the running started I expect that the weight may well increase though, muscle weighing more than fat n' all that!
I'm not going mad on calorie counting but weirdly, i'm really quite enjoying the process of the whole weight loss/ fitness thing so far. I've downloaded 2 paid-for apps - "fit woman" and "running". I intend to start running this week and will be using Mr Pix's exercise bike today to get started with the flab burning. If I could shift my belly fat to my boobs i'd be a very happy Pix indeed...but i guess if I could do that and patent the technique I'd be a millionaire in weeks! I'm resigned to losing what bust I have doing this cos I know the fat won't just go from the areas I want it to
Ooohh Hearbreak_Star, that's a great website. Took me a few tries to get the link to work but when I took out the http bits it loaded fine. Thank youGot it saved to my favourites now.
Hi Margaretclare. It would be so much more difficult to stay motivated if I didn't have Mr Pix's support. Luckily he is very encouraging with all this and we don't have puddings very often. In fact he's just downloaded the myfitnesspal app too, so although he's not religious about his calorie intake he is supportive. He's just reminded me that I need to get on the exercise bike before dinner, for instance
Hmm I've never heard of aerial classes Amberfinn, but I plan to google search them for my area and look into giving it a try if I find one. Thanks for the tip.
Right, it's salad for tea with a small amount of pasta salad and a salmon fishcake. All low(ish) calories... bike first though....
