Credit cards

Hi everyone,
Please can anyone answer my question. I live on a lovely island called the Isle of Man. I'm sure a lot of people would have heard of it. If I wanted to get to England it would be half an hour on a plane and about 2 and a half hours on a boat so I'm really not that far from the UK so WHY OH WHY can I not get a credit card just because I don't have a UK address???? I have had a Marks and Spencer card before, paid it on time, never missed a payment. Seems absolutely ridiculous. Does anyone have an answer, PLEASE.....

Maybe it's because CC companies don't want to have problems with chasing you should you fail to pay?

You haven't given us enough information. Have you applied for a Flybe card? That's available to IoM residents.

Maybe you are bankrupt. Maybe you don't earn enough. We just don't know from what you have told us.

It's possible of course, that British based banks with offshore operations provide credit card facilities through these.

Apart from Messrs Simpson and Spratt. They're the liquidators of Kaupthing. I doubt they're offering credit cards.

If the OP were that desperate he could offer to pay uk tax which might help things.
  • The same reason residents of Donegal or Calais can't get a UK credit card; you don't live in the UK (and probably most importantly, aren't subject to UK laws on credit)
