Hi I am trying to connect my laptop which has windows 7 to my brothers wi-fi box in the other room
I used to have it but have lost the connection
It is a virgin media box I can get it on my iPad which I'm using mow
I wonder if I is something to do with my adaptor settings because it says adaptor not connected and the virgin box doesn't show up on the list of available connections even though it shows up under manage networks that you can modify

First, check whether or not the Wireless network light is on on the laptop. It might just be possible that you have accidentally turned it off. Thus losing the connection.
Next, has this happened since a Windows update ?. If so, just try rolling Windows back to prior to the update.Never Knowingly Understood.

Has router password been chaged by your brother, check that first.
Reboot (if you have not done so already)
If you have done that, try to go command prompt, type
ipconfig / release <ENTER>
wait 30 seconds and then type
ipconfig /renew
See if it connects, if does not then
Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change Adapter Settings
Check if the wifi adapter is still enabled.
If it is, go to
Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Manage Wireless Networks
Right click on the network for your brother's router and Remove it
Then go to Task Bar -> Network Icon and see if your brother's router is appearing there, if it does then select and enter the router password and see if it works0 -
