Inset Days vs School Holidays

Where on earth do you get the idea that TEACHERS schedule inset days from ? There was discussion from another poster about how she (as a teacher) has observed teachers influencing parents evening scheduling but nowhere has anyone said that training days are scheduled by teachers ....and rightly so it's a management function.
I'm sorry but I find it very hard to believe you have ever worked in education.
Read your own posts again maybe?
Whether you believe it or not, I did (and still do on occasions), hence my reaction when I feel teachers are being unfairly criticised.
As I said, lets agree to disagree.0 -
I suppose the problem is that if external trainers are needed to deliver certain trainings the days have to be different as they can only deliver one training at a time (unless the training is done in one central large facility rather than in individual schools I guess)
Which is what I said happens here in N.Ireland.
We have education boards here in N/Ireland, however they don't decide any of our Baker days. The schools, ie. Principal and teachers decide them. Well I say decide them, they are discussed at staff meetings when certain courses are available, each head of department discuss if there are any courses that someone from outside of the school needs to deliver the course or if the staff need to go to the local BELB training center for said course/s.
The schools also try and have their baker days and Exceptional closures around the same time as the other Primary schools in our area, however again, this is not always possible. Most days are around holidays, i.e Good Friday, the 6th January, the last Bank holiday Monday in May - this is usually when teachers are in for their final 6 weekly staff meeting in morning, then make a start on Reports.
Other days are for courses or other reasons for closures. We'll be off next Thursday for Elections, so that's another one, and that's totally out of our control, however my 2 are still in schoolPay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0
