How can I record audio sound on my Pc ?
I want to record an interview off a programme on BBC iPlayer.
My machine is Windows XP.
Are there any built-in tools that come with XP or can I download something ?
Thanks

Lucky you have an XP machine, as Windows 7 & newer prevents this.0

I use Audacity to record sound on my PC. There is an option to select what sound source you would like to record and if you want to record sound from a streaming video like BBC iPlayer, or Youtube then select the option in Audacity: "what you hear".
I you wish to save the recorded sound to MP3 then you need to download the LAME encoder, available from here: http://lame.buanzo.org/

Lucky for you if it worked, AFAIK MS ensured with Windows 7 & higher, that on most hardware, the soundcard ('what you hear') output is greyed out and cannot be selected as a recording input. There is some dodgy non freeware software out there that claims to get round this and other unattractive suggestions about retrofitting Windows XP soundcard drivers.
This link sums up the situation on my hardware:

This wasn't an issue for me, I have a Windows 7 machine with a Soundblaster Xi-Fi sound card though.0
