Pyxis, how about just committing to dealing with 2 pieces of paper from the paper mountain today? Just 2. 2 a day means it will get done in a month.
Another idea, is do you have a friend who give you 2 hrs and help you sort, shred, file?
I've just asked a friend for two hrs next week to help me re organise stuff in the attic. It is much easier when someone is helping you: v motivating ( got to be the right person though).I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Whilst a friend can help with the purely physical, practical things like lugging stuff to the tip or Charity Shop, the very personal nature of most paperwork means that it isn't appropriate to delegate it.
Some of it involves my having to read through things, so only I can do that!
Also, some of it is so personal, e.g. financial stuff, that I wouldn't want even a close friend knowing things in that detail.
It's a mindset thing, and it's a case of finding the right switch that turns it on!
Ok, I tell you what. I'll go and sort the table into Urgent And Important, Urgent But Not Important, and Important, and report back.:)(I just lurve spiders!)

And their presence forces you to focus and get it done: it forces the "on switch".
But you are quite right, if you feel your privacy would be invaded, that is a legitimate feeling and the idea would not work for you.
For anyone reading this who's paperwork mountain is too overwhelming, there are professional declutterer's/organisers out there who can help you tackle this so you can start afresh. Their confidentiality and safeguarding of your privacy is a priority.
Well done on table sorting - that's a good step - helps breakdown the jobs into less big piles which hopefully has the knock on effect of creating lots of bite sized jobs rather than one big black cloud.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0
