Getting cheap/free upgrades at Haven

Hi All

I have a Haven Holiday coming up in May at the Prestatyn Sands Park which was booked very cheap but direct with the park.

I've also managed to managed to get a Sun £15 hol for Devon Cliffs in June.

The direct booked hol is in a Deluxe + Van, and the Sun one is a standard.

Was wondering if you guys could share your hints and tips for getting cheap or free upgrades ? (ETA obv I am very happy with what I have booked for the price, but if there are any cheeky tips or tricks out there to squeeze even more out the offers then that would be appreciated )

I was thinking of watching booking availability a few days before due to head off and getting in touch to see if we could bag one of the unbooked premium vans for cheap or just bag a few extra freebies. (Not holding out much hope on the Sun One, but perhaps the one booked direct may go for it ?)

Just interested to hear all your hints and tips for getting cheap park add ons/freebies for a Haven Holiday park.

From my experience of booking sun holidays at Haven / Butlins sites i think the chance of getting upgraded from standard depends very much on

1 what site you are going to - some Haven sites have many more standard Haven fleet vans than other sites which have mainly "owners" vans which are usually better than standard vans.


2 what time of year - obviously in peak weeks they are more likely fully booked and so the "upgrade" vans would probably be occupied by people who had payed for the higher standard of van

3 what time you arrive and check in on site - if you check in earlier you are more likely to get an upgrade than if you arrive at 7pm i.e. they fill up the upgrades at the beginning of the booking in process

Prestaven sands has a large number of Haven fleet vans so maybe less likely to get an upgrade - we went here on a sun holiday in August 2 years ago and got a standard van but it was August so maybe different at other times.

Devon Cliffs - not sure but someone might know if that site has more Haven fleet standard vans or is a site that is more occupied with owners vans e.g. Haven Thorpe Park has a very high proportion of owners vans and so you are much more likely to be given an privately owned van with more features than a standard van.

I had to speak with the site over something else the other day, and they said that they would give me a bell next week to discuss if any upgrades are available.

I'm not really wanting to pay out much , so if something cheap or, even better, free comes along I shall take it. If not I'm happy with my bargain in any case !
