Roughly 4-5 months ago I compared energy prices with uswitch and SSE came top of the comparisons. Not only that but after three months, I would receive a £100 credit on my bill. I gladly switched and was doubly pleased when two days later , I heard from the television news that SSE were bumping prices with immediate effect as I had just squeezed in on a previous rate. A month or so went by and the switch went through with no hitches.
However upon checking my online statements a couple of weeks ago to see if the credit had gone one, not only has the credit NOT gone on but I am also £400 in debit despite continuing with my regular payments he same amount as my previous provider (Scottish Power). I emailed SSE who said they never ran the £100 off my bill after three months and maybe I should contact the comparison website as it must be one of their promotions. Highly dubious, I emailed and called uswitch who (as expected) told me they would have no power over crediting a bill of an energy provider.
Now what are my options from here? I really want to leave SSE as soon as possible because I feel I've been ripped off doubly but ain't going nowhere until I've at least got the £100 credit. The other downside is a £50 exit fee which I am slightly less worried about as I can offset that with £30 cash back received for switching to a new provider.
Any advice would be greatly received. Thanks.

With no apparant evidence of anyone owing you £100, (if you did, you'd know who promised it to you) then you are stumped.
Lesson learned for the future.
Keep copies of all contracts including terms & conditions until a contract is fullfilled.
You can switch supplier any time you like. Use a comparison site to see if doing so will saves you any money. As you said, possible cashback may offset early exit fees - but if the saving is so small switching I wouldn't bother.
If you can make a huge saving, then the early exit fess will pale into insignificance.

Thank you for your reply.
Pretty much what I expected to hear there although I am very dissapointed to have to hear what I already know- that I've been shafted. I do understand that I SHOULD have maybe screenshot the PC or made a note of dates and offers but it shouldn't really have to be that way, should it?
Oh well, lesson learned and I hope this helps make others' minds up when considering joining SSE.
P.S I have logged an official complaint with SSE last week and have yet to receive a reply despite them promising to respond withing 24hours. I am firmly convinced they are a bunch of shysters.0 -
I knew this sounded familiar!
There was a similar post about this a few weeks ago and it sounds like they were eventually successful in getting the £100 despite doubts it ever existing.

Thanks. I will get back on to hounding them for the cash although I am yet to receive any replies to my official complaints that have been lodged so I am not holding my breath.
Thanks again.0
