Best advice my father ever gave to me. If you find yourself looking at the clock, waiting for the day to be over, quit.

On the downside, we didn't see huge amount of him because he loved his work so much (he would go to his lab and experimental fields even on Saturdays, sometimes taking us kids with him)

On the upside, he was happy. And he lived by his word, he quit a couple of jobs because there was too much admin, not research, he refused all promotions, as that would mean . And when his heart was no longer in it, he stopped (aged 52) and did something else (fishing, marking theses, and part time editting of scientific journals)

I've tried to do the same. Luckily the place I am now, they move me around before I get bored, so have stayed

I was signed off with stress last September from the NHS and never went back. I have been off work for a few months, doing the odd temping job here and there, and yes, finances are tight, but my health has improved and I am so much happier. Yes, I have to find something soon, but I gave up smoking recently which saves us £120 a month which enables me to go from a 5 day week to a 4 day week. So try and work something out, it is worth it. You have one life. Good luck. :)

    Hi All :hello:
    Thanks Loublue
I have just finished a course which could mean I could become a contractor where the day rate is a lot higher - it is something I am now looking into... does anyone have any experience of project management contracting?

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Yes I did it a few years ago. I am now contracting in a more specialist IT field.

I like contracting because it gives me freedom and money in the bank should I decide enough is enough.

What type of project management would you be looking to get into?
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

Don't know anything about that, I'm afraid, but really pleased you are getting your teeth into something and making plans to improve the quality of your life. :)
