    Hey there!
None of us want to work....
However, in order to get the things we want, it is a necessary daily function.
    Is it really that bad????

think about it - if you didn't work - would it be better, all things considered?

Not having enough cash to cover expenses isnt good... really I'd prefer to work part time but we are not quite at that stage yet.

Well you have a couple of choices as far as I can see.

Stick at it. Risk your health which no-one can put a price on.

Search for a new full-time job. Perhaps you will enjoy a new direction.

Alter your lifestyle so you only need to work a minimum number of hours. Whether it be downsizing your house/flat, moving to the other end of the country, getting rid of car(s). We can exist on what we want to. It just depends on whether the type of lifestyle you want is worth making sacrifices and efforts for. :)

Not being smug, but that's not true - I totally utterly and completely adore what I do and so does my partner. It's just a case of finding what you want to do and what you are good at (thats something that's (imho) really important - if you're pants at something, you're not likely to like it really.).

So go through all your hobbies/interests/dreams and think what can I make a job out of them? It might mean you have to retrain, or go self employed, but once you've identified it its easy - it's just thinking what it is that is the hard part.

I know what you mean about it being horrid when you hate it though and are only doing it because you feel you have to - I used to do a job I hated and had to as I was supporting people and it would have taken time etc to get another job, and seriously at some points felt like topping myself I felt so trapped.

Just thinking and planning for what you *do* want to do will make it a little easier at your current work, I promise, so have a real hard think about all the things in life you love, no matter how mad sounding, and then think how they can possibly lead to jobs. The more positive steps you make to getting where you want to be, the less stressful work will be, as you will care less and less and really see that there is a way out.

    Best of luck :)

Will you be able to afford to go part-time when you are debt-free? Also do as another poster suggests and downsize/get rid of a car/sell something?

I knew when the time was right for me to go part-time and so I do understand how you feel.

    Good luck!

Hi Do it today. I can totally sympathise with how you feel. I was the same in my job, absolutely hated going there, was stresed out and still no money at the end of the month. 4 years ago I took a job that was in my department but 7 hours less a week. It doesn't sound like much but I start at 10 and finish at 4.30. I'm there to put the children to school I can do a few jobs around the house, go to the bank, dentist, doctors appointments etc all before work. I did take a reduction in wages, but luckily my tax credits increased so I didn't really notice a drastic reduction. I'm happier and less stressed now than I've ever been.

Have a check on the entitled to website and see if you were to drop your hours whether you'd be entitled to any benefits..

    Good luck x

Do a search on I want to quit and you will end up with my post.

Eventually I lost the plot and one day picked my handbag up and walked out. I haven't looked back. Granted it has only been about three weeks, but in that time I have gone self-employed (I got a contract the day after I left my old job).

However, I have realised that my old job was depressing me to the point where I was barely able to function. I disagree with the other OP who say any job is better than none.

Something I read when I was thinking of quitting is 'no one makes a lot of money doing something they don't like).

You cut your cloth accordingly - maybe you could survive on less money but would be unable to be debt free quite so quickly. Would that be a bad thing?

I am skint now, but my future looks bright!

I know how you feel and I have moved away from employment into the mad world of self employment with over £100k of unsecured debt to my name at the time!! Big risk, but one I have never regretted.

With a bit of focus and thought, you can make any necessary adjustments that you need to - whether to change the job, see the job you have in a different way so that it does not cause you as much emotion, go full time, part time, self employed, whatever.

You can only do what is right for you. I did what was right for me and my family even though some people thought I was stark raving bonkers and have made the best move that I could possibly have done.

Good luck in whatever you choose to do. Let us know your decision when you have made it.

  • We have one life - if you blink you'll miss it! Don't spend it being miserable .. if you are able to ... downsize further do it, ... change jobs do it. Its the quality of life we have not the quanitity of "things" in it that make us happy! Take care.
