    Mega post counterstrike! :rotfl:
How could you not tell us what the dips are?

    I'm sorry!

Similarly, the roof is not above our flat directly so all flats responsible jointly, and landlord above is cheaper than cheap!

Well, our loft insulation is going to be 100% free thanks to energy company obligations, surely they could be won round due to the £0 thing?
I'm hoping they will want to car pool

Good idea, I suspect your pay to drive idea may go down like a lead balloon unless you get on quite well with these people? ;)
we have a nice butcher across from us

Ok, you win the 1st world competition, I should have said 'star anise' here and not on Tilly's thread :rotfl:
Can I ask you pension question please? That board is scary

Any time you like, saves annoying Mrs E. That said, she did use the word 'assets' in multiple sentences on Boxing Day (that's my girl!)
Our area doesn't even have recycling yet!

Could you write to the council?

And just to reply to the cheeky KC :p
Poor you its a hard life

Unfortunately none of our food waste gets recycled, can't think of an environmentally friendly way to do so. That said, we have a couple of nearby community gardens, I'm sure they'd be happy for me to chuck our peelings on the pile. If I wasn't such a shrinking violet in real life, I'd do this already, but I'm afraid of getting engaged in conversation and being a nervous wreck :o
Another :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:here. You could be the equivalent of the mad cat lady - except she collects newspapers, doesn't give stuff away :D. Like KC said, get used to it, you'll be a babe magnet soon :T.

Recycling is hardly rocket science is it? My black bin (non-recyclable) only gets put out around every six weeks, my other bins are always full. Food waste goes out every week but most people don't bother :(
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I think we will try again, they were alternating between ignoring us and demanding written proof of no damage incurred to their proprty etc etc.
Good idea, I suspect your pay to drive idea may go down like a lead balloon unless you get on quite well with these people? ;)

Ha, I don't think it would happen, just wild dreaming. I think it would more likely be one person drive one week and swap around etc but better than nothing.

Is that 1st world? I just meant 'nice' as in it's a wee village butcher and they are lovely :)

Yay, thank you! We will sway them :money:
So the pension scheme I'll be joining is a 'group personal', so a defined contribution scheme, apparently they pay a percentage of my base salary. Do you know if there is a limit you can pay in? Also, *really* silly question - can a pension go down? Obviously it's an investment type system, do you get to choose what's invested it, like the S&S ISA? I'm a little confused :o

    • You can pay in pretty much your whole salary up to something like £40k/year from memory, fill yer boots. Not sure why you'd want to tho, unless they will match contributions 100%?
    • Of course a pension can go down, but it's very unlikely that you'll get less than you pay in, as you pay in less than half of it!
    • Just like your S&S ISA, except you'll get a limited range of funds that you can invest in. It's likely to be from Legal & General or Scottish Widows, I suspect.
    • Fees are a good bit higher than your ISA probably. For example, my L&G pension is capped at 1%, whereas I pay less than 0.6% all in for my ISA.

Where we lived on a farm had a private contractor collecting our waste for the council; I called to ask for a black bin for recycling and was told by the woman at the council "I don't think we'll go to those lengths to get you a recycling box".

After 5 years of taking all our recycling to the municipal centre every month.

Despite the fact our neighbours on the main road had all their recycling collected.

We finally got boxes for all neighbours - one didn't want his as it was too much hassle. Then the council gave us coloured bin bags for rubbish limited to 80 a year and our neighbour suddenly wanted a recycling box

They don't match contributions at all from what I see, they pay a set percentage.
And I understand more now! I did wonder how people could always be assuming it wouldn't go down.
Thank you for the extra info. I've heard a lot of horror stories, are they generally a safe thing nowadays? Paranoid :o

Surely not? An INFJ counsellor? ;)

If they pay a set percentage, I'd be paying naff all into their pension. Set up your own SIPP, keep costs down.

Apart from the different fund choices, it's the same as your ISA, and about as risky. All we can do is make sensible choices and hope for the best, the rest is in God's hands :)
