Perhaps the old tools are valuable vintage items that would sell to collectors if they were cleaned up?

Or perhaps they are just bits of old junk.

    More likely the latter

Goldie, they're just gardening tools that have gotten rusty from being stored in an improper environment. Sad things like a rusty shovel, a mismatched broom handle and head and weed killer that was outlawed after the Vietnam war...

I would not have minded, but we are charged for bulk collections by the council, so they have transferred a cost onto me. It's not the highest charge ever, more the principle of the thing. We might have left our flat a little grubby due to the difficulties of moving out/in on the same day, but I gutted the place and at least whipped round every room with the hoover before leaving.

On positive money news, got some more money into Funding C1rcle. Now have a P2P total of £5,156.98 @ 7.30% after fees and tax. My last referral has now paid out, not expecting many more as R@tesetter have increased the amount required to £1,000 invested for £50 reward each.

What a shame, Ed, about all the leavings you've discovered :( I suppose the re-wire really makes sense now ...

And yes, your P2P is fantastic! Hope Miss Ed hasn't noticed too much difference in her surroundings, by the way!

    Thanks LIL and KC :)

DD is doing well in her new surroundings, a few night squalls, but we're getting there. She's enjoying her new routine and seems particularly keen on the aquarium, which is now closer to the couch and has been restocked with some technicolour guppies.

Doesn't sound too bad, to be honest. I cannot even begin to think how much junk (and mice) we had to clear out of this house before it was in a state to move into. A new (to you) house will always throw up surprises.

Why are you replacing the boiler?

As for being charged for collections by council, load your car and take it yourself. :)

It's 30 years old. We also have an old immersion tank and cold water tank to be removed (freeing up a cupboard and 3-4 square metres of attic space so that I can floor it). Aiming for a super toasty eco house with next to no utility bills and no surprises.

Many of the items to go won't fit in our car. I can saw down the wood, but there are some hefty bits of concrete that won't.

I always think by replacing new for (working?) old this is where the eco argument falls down because surely the cost of the new and the energy used in both producing new item and disposing of old is not very efficient? Of course, that is presuming the boiler is in working condition.
