Can I confess to spending the child benefit too... It lands in an account then as we want, we spend it on "big" things, like towards our summer holiday. They all have had bank accounts since birth but I have regularly op'd all available cash. They however do cost a small fortune in music lessons etc every week, far more than the CB so I don't feel guilty. We do intend to "help" when they get to uni as will be MF by then.Morgage till Nov 30 GOAL MFW Sept 2016Aug 11 - £100k Aug 2016.... It's GONE!!!!!
2014 GOAL HIT 5 Stone! 2016 GOAL to be a MF marathon runner.

I know I might have mentioned this before but have you looked into starting pension for kids, money on one side for half a century surely has to add up.
Would it be worth it adding £20 a month or so into with a company with history such as Aviva that you could reasonably expect will be still here in 50 years. When I say worth it, with a small monthly investment wouldn't the fees gobble it up.
What do you think about this people or am I just paranoid as we have very little pension provision and may have left it too late to rectify our situation satisfactorily.0 -
Thanks Helen, also don't feel too bad 'spending' CB while spending more than double that a month on necessities.
OCC, not a bad idea at all, although I'd rather help kiddies when I'm alive to see it. Can't fault the logic0 -
Ed, a question I asked Goldie yesterday springs to mind: what time of day do you do your financial research, like RS and spins offers? I'm trying (and failing) to find a way of incorporating that sort of thing into my schedule, and I'm not doing well at it, to tell the truth.
Any kind of regularity to when you do your stuff?2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Financial stuff I dip into throughout the day. I have a desk job and have an online wander when it's quiet. MB stuff, usually just when I return home from work. Not doing much of that any more, think the well is running a bit dry.0

Another spender of CB here - has always gone into our current account. However, children each have (the same) small amount monthly into a savings acct (which they can't touch) and do things like swimming/ Beavers/ Cubs/ Army Cadets/ drama/ driving lessons which cost us way more than CB. DD also gets paid (@ £5/ hr) adhoc for any work she does for me on either the company or the charity - I get her to do things like input all the finance stuff and do bank recs - it's quite useful for CV/ UCAS application and means she gets to see some finance budgeting stuff, which can never be a bad thing!I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200

Sounds like a great idea re. DD greent, my Dad always roped us into labour intensive gardening projects etc. and paid us what was adult minimum wage at the time. It was only £3.50/hr or so, but we felt rich as young teens :T0

Lovely day for Mrs E's Birthday.
Just found out from one of our friendly delivery drivers (carrying a table leg) that one of their colleagues was stabbed just along the street from us. Our move seems very fortuituous :eek:0 -
Goodness!
When is the move likely to be?0 -
Hopefully two weeks on Friday.0
