Ed I loved the houses. I saw the wee Scottish house company plans a few weeks ago and that started me thinking about type of 'kit' houses. Not got any further with our investigations but I think they could provide a route to financial independence!
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

I could absolutely see us adding a small cottage for self-catering accommodation if our future plot allows. Crofters have been cobbling together income streams for generations, it would be nothing new! :)

Just finished one of the nicest meals I've made in ages.

We had a Thomas Keller inspired confit pork belly with baked haddock, pan fried scallops deglazed with butter and yuzu juice and a roast vine tomato and onion salad :)

This has been a very busy weekend, visiting family and MBing. I had a good time catching up with the 3 preggers ladies in my life (relatives, not bigamy!) and was very lucky with a range of football and horse racing offers. Not sure how much yet, but £200+ :T

I also did all the usual housework, got rid of gigantic quantities of furniture packaging and recycling and built the crib for beside our bed. It's a lovely co-sleeping one that will allow us to pick up Toots with minimal effort.

All that, and we've got tomorrow off!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Any meal where 1 of 4 elements requires 3 blocks of lard to cook is going to end up tasty  :rotfl:

It's ok, most of it remains in the fridge, it can be re-used.

Hi there edinburgher, I have stumbled across your thread and found it really interesting. I was looking at the recent posts and found the FV calculation discussion. I'm a spreadsheet nerd so it really appealed to me. My number is £40.62 but I have pension contributions going in (Er's and Ee's) as well as £300 per month going into a S&S ISA. I have now set up a separate tab on my budget spreadhseet so that I can keep a close eye on it. I have 10 years to go until my planned retirement date so it is sort of within reach if you know what I mean. When we are talking about 20+ years it feels too far away to be real. I'll have a gap where I won't have access to some defined benefit pension pots but the rules are changing all the time so who knows what will have happened by then!

Thanks for your comments, interesting and nicely written. I have subscribed to your thread so I'm sure I'll be following regularly now, if not posting regularly. I'm a bit off and on with the forums.

Thanks for stopping in chickadee, glad to be making myself useful.

A separate spreadsheet tab is a good idea, I have an overall net worth one, but it's perhaps a bit too high level at times.

I would also expect further pension changes in the next decade, it seems to be a topic that very few governments can leave alone! At the moment, money in S&S ISAs or P2P lending would seem to be the next best thing :)
