Ahhh right got ya ... I dont have a works pension as such ( only just started to get one now ... NHS) so mine is all self invested ( apart from tax rebate obviously)

Dont have an awful lot in an ISA either just now as I am trying to get the pension up first them will work on both once the mortgage is paid :)

Doing it that way for a few obvious reasons :)

Nope :( its changed now :( from DB to DC ( and I dont get a say where its invested either) I will only really get 15 years worth of money paid into it for me as I plan on retiring at 60 but wont be able to access it till I reach state pension retirement age, so not going to rely on it at all really

Wonder if there is a kinda tracker Bond fund ... hmmmmm
    Cross-posting jinx!

Currently adding into this VANGUARD INV SER GLOBAL BOND IDX HGD GBP ACC, although I still hold far too much of this VANGUARD INV SER UK INV GRADE BD IDX ACC. My investment profile isn't conservative enough to buy gilts etc.

So that one, the "VANGUARD INV SER GLOBAL BOND IDX HGD GBP ACC" (copied and pasted) is a sort of tracker Bond fund?

Aye its better than I have ever had before and for that I am greatful :) up till now every penny in my pension was either me or the tax man ... and when I think about how much I have managed to get my pension up to I am quite impressed with myself ( although I have a long long way to go)

Doesnt your employer pay a contribution into yours? I know Mr El's does ( now he takes gold plated up to platinum made pension status ... lucky lucky man)

Aye Kc :) it is used to make up part of the vanguard life strategy portfolio going by perceived wisdom as we age we are meant to become more bond heavy, I cant do that however as I dont have enough funds to be able to afford to do that so I have to play quite aggressive still ( well for me :) )

Thanks El! I'm much, much older than you, and even olderer than Ed, so even though I need it, I can't be quite as aggressive. I have some funds that need to be mucked around with, I'll have a look at doing this .... I deffo wanted bonds, but the sets of initials are frankly putting me off .... ta!

KC, you may be better off with a mix of bonds like these and gilts etc. considering your proximity to retirement.

Alternatively, there is absolutely nothing wrong with holding a good wodge of cash if you can get an above inflation return on it (this will be even truer if the Tories get back in at the election and pass their no tax on first £1k of savings interest sweetener).

You're basically looking to hold something that has a weak correlation to what equities do/behave differently to them.
