fallen foul of the new BB system

Put in my renewal application 6 weeks ago as my LA advises, it still isn't back. My current expires this weekend. I'm a tad annoyed at the departments ,ain't our fault approach. Grrrr

    HiYa sizzler1893 & others,

    - the national GOV blue badge portal is a convoluted system that merely redirects to your local LA
    ................... however
    - it gives an instant email confirmation of receipt of the application and a tracking reference number which you can access
    - this does work and even with the pointless duplication of effort the tracking alone is reassurance and an evidential trail of the application is a bonus

Ring them and ask for a 4 week extension to your existing badge number till they catch up with their own arrass, best of luck.

Afraid it happens everytime. I now expect to have to go and collect it on expiry day. If I've had it 2 days early they take the old one off you so you are effectively without a badge for any intervening period of having taken old badge off you and start of new badge. Not a great scenario but its happened to me the last 2 occasions so make sure you don't need it for any shopping etc if any overlap in start and finish dates.

    Richie,

many thanks for the info. I haven't got a tracking number for the online service. Should my LA do the extension.

    thanks again

If you didn't go through the portal, but went direct to the LA all you can do is harass the LA. Yes the national system is a system only .. .. they don't vet anyone its all still done by each LA but to a national standard with a national anti-fraud dBase.

The next big scandal is that all 2.58 million [54,000 less than 2011] badges are being replaced and the total numpties are not asking for the old badge [confiscation] before the new badge is issued. I reasonably expect a proportion of that 2.58 million old badges to find their way into the £5 thousand~quid~a~go lucrative blue badge sales system. Stupid stupid local authorities .. .. thank god for the new dBase system.

Well, I'm truly stuck. Can't get to hospital appointments, I won't even be able to go and pick up the new badge-the council pick up point hadn't any parking and the nearest car park is too far away for me to get there.

Mind you if I move my car to the nearest on street parking away from where I live I'll have to camp in it. Can't walk the distance back to my place and there's no way my mum can push that far up a slope.

    - ditto, as far as I'm aware its a new national guideline adopted by all LA's to save staff[ing] time and a lot of money
    - certainly in my case and I suspect all cases there is no local BB human interface at all
    - the savings I suspect are diverted to the set up costs of an effective prosecution system

    Renewal of Blue Badge

The 'portal' allows everything to happen from your puter or phone. Your signature and photograph are digitally copied, the application is an electronic [editable] *.pdf, and your supporting evidence is also sent as an electronic copy. So the whole adventure is completely paperless. Its not without its faults but as long as it leads to misuser's being heavily prosecuted up to and including having their (1) vehicle seized and the (2) badge confiscated and the complicit badge holder having their (3) rights permanently withdrawn and a (4) criminal conviction - I'll support the initiative.

Most people never read the Blue Book, on page 7 & 8 it tells you that """"It is a criminal offence for you or anyone else to misuse the badge, and doing so could lead to a £1,000 fine and confiscation of the badge and that It must only be displayed if you are travelling in the vehicle as a driver or passenger, or if someone is collecting you or dropping you off and needs to park at the place where you are being collected or dropped nor should you allow other people to use the badge to do something on your behalf, such as shopping or collecting something for you, unless you are travelling with them"""

Our borough, Bromley, still does it as before -print out and send the form with payment and photos.

They post it back ,takes about a week.

Mine used to post them out but now you have to collect in person with 2 forms of I.D.

    no exceptions.
