Default registered twice for same debt Help

Just after some advice on if this is normal or if i should dispute it?
I defaulted on a halifax account in 2013-never recieved the paperwork as i moved address (my own fault for not updating it)
when i didnt pay it they sold the debt to Cabot. Halifax registered their default as satisfied and Cabot registered their own default.
So now i have two defaults on my file for the same debt.. I raised this with Equifax and Cabot sent me a letter saying they had recieved my disute and included all their letters- showing they were taking over debt etc. I am now going to contact Cabot and pay the debt in full.
This means i will have two satisfied defaults on my file for the same debt.. is this right? Will it go against me like they are two seperate debts?
Thank you for any help advice

Does the halifax entry include an entry to show that the debt was assigned?
If so then someone searching your file such as a potential lender will see there is only 1 defaulted account.
If it doesn't show that the account was assigned then it is incorrect and you should write to cabot (copy in halifax) to point out that the halifax entry is still on your record and so they need to remove theirs.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thank you for the quick reply
where would this info show?
There is nothing on the credit report i am viewing.
Would it be in an additional box below for example one of my other defaults was a partial settlement and it says Customer account update- partial settlement Explanation- Payment recieved as a full and final...0 -
Does it say assigned to CAIS member or like?
Are the default dates the same?:beer:0 -
amount default date start date everything identical only difference is that one says current account with halifax and thr other current account with cabot..
I cant see anything additional listed?0 -
Odd.
I would raise a query with the CRA or send a written complaint to Cabot about the duplicate default. In writing, include a copy of both entries.
Possibly both.:beer:0 -
I raised a dispute on equifax saying id never had an account with cabot but believed was linked due to identical details and wanted one removed.
have recieved details from cabot acknowledging my dispute and explaining who they are including a assignment letter from halifax.
there letter says its normal for two defaults but halofax one would be recorded as sold..
so should I go back to equifax and dispute the info on the halifax one?
once this shows as sold would this mean it would count as one and be seen as one default by lenders?0 -
Have a look at this:

Sometimes this is useful. As when the debt gets sold , the account history gets reset.this way, you get to see the history before it was sold and after.:beer:0
