I usually look for anything nice in the reduced section (steak etc) then freeze until the Friday :)
We had fillet steak, mini garlic jacket potatoes, peppercorn sauce (just steak juices and pan deglazed) and salad for only £2.50 for 2 and it fed my 3 yo too :)

Thank you again everyone. Some great ideas.

I spotted the kindle version of the takeaway secret just before I completed the order so downloaded that instead. And it was cheaper at £2.99.

I am just about to start through it with a cuppa!!

    Hi again.

I am looking through the kindle version but cannot find the 'kfc' recipe - is it not in this version? Or have I just missed it?

Edited - found it! It is in the sides section but thought it would have been in a section on its own!!
  • Go Italian for under a fiver - I buy Sainsbury's basics mushroom pasta packets, basics garlic bread and a frozen basics cheesecake. The pasta packets and bread only take a few minutes to cook, and I defrost the cheesecake in the warm oven using the heat I've already paid for. The whole meal costs well under a fiver and tastes like a treat, leaving a bit over for a bottle of wine too, or one of those picnic size bottles for about £2 which give a small glass each. If friends are coming over, I buy an extra garlic bread and a basics green leaf salad, and add a couple of tomatoes or peppers to bulk up the salad, and the meal for four still only costs around a fiver as the friends bring the wine!
  • We rarely have takeaway, as no good ones near us. Lazy treats we have are:

Pizza fresh, frozen or homemade with garlic bread & salad.
Curry/chinese bag from supermarket or homemade or jar sauce with naans, poppadums or prawn crackers.
Dips with battered onion rings, sausage rolls, wedges, breaded mushrooms, chicken dippers, etc or Indian/Chinese snack selection.
Fresh pastas with sauces from the chiller aisle, garlic bread & salad.
Nachos made with value tortillas, pot of salsa or homemade chilli, lashings of melted cheese or tacos with chilli or chicken fajitas, all served with a big dollop of sour cream or guacamole.
Steak, chips, onion rings, mushrooms & peas.
Burgers homemade or bought stacked high with salad with chips.
Fishfinger cobs or sandwiches with chips.
Beef in red wine or chicken in red/white wine with wedges & veg homemade or a jar sauce. Perfect for popping in the oven while having a nice relaxing bath.

Oh and wine of course lots of it red, white, rose, or lager, beer, cider...:D

Smoked salmon, prawns and other 'fishy nonsense'. I always shop around for what's on offer. We have this with nice bread, often homemade (with the breadmaker) and some form of cheap fizz. Tesco's ordinary Cava is really inexpensive but is quite nice. It's all much cheaper than a takeaway but tastes nice and is very low calory.
  • Chicken attack. Oven on 180. Chicken in one hour ten. Homemade oven chips in after 30 mins. Open wine. Watch some rubbish telly. Knock up a salad, slice some good bread. Chuck it all on the table. Let everyone dig in, dip bread in juices etc. greedy and cheap. and no work at all. Cheers.

Hi - since my friend told me what she uses for pizza bases, I have always used these. I've tried pitta breads which I really like but my husband prefers a naan bread, I usually buy the garlic ones for a bit more flavour. I spread tomato puree on the naan, then whatever topping I have, cheese, mozarella, ham, mushrooms, fresh tomato slices or I have used pepperoni slices from Aldi, (think they are about 79p). Spinkle with oregano or whatever you want then cook in the oven til ready. Takes very little time to prepare & they are really nice with your own choice of topping.

Birds eye chicken nuggets / dippers about 5 each - cook in oven or Remoska
Jar of Sainsburys Sweet n sour sauce- was 30p last time i bought it
Add some of a tin of pineapple pieces (drained) if you like
    Heat and add the nuggets.
Serve with rice - either sachet or from packet as usual
Very easy and pain-free for the whole family (until DS decided he didn't like it, drat him!)
