If in four months they fall to a thousand pieces then the retailers has broken contract and I am within my rights to request a replacement only as SoGA does not allow for demanding refunds etc?

You may request a replacement, however the retailer may select to repair (unlikely on shoes) or a partial refund (dependent on use) if those options if a replacement is more costly.

For the sake of £25 quid?

The total amount is irelavant as some people would regard that £25 as a huge sum of their total monthly spending budget, others would scoff at anything less than a few hundred or more as pocket change. It comes down to the principle in which case yes unequivocally for the sake of £25.

Thing is, it will cost at least that to take it to court...

But when your £25 running shoes fall apart will you've able to prove you've only run 400 miles in them ? Can you clock running shoes ?

Sorry for being sarcastic but I find all the questions a tad ridiculous for a pair of £25 shoes.

If we are talking about SportsDirect, if I were you I'd leave them in The shop.

Ok one final thing and I should be in a better state of understanding. SoGA states that a customer needs to ask about the use of the product to have any chance of arguing an unfit for purpose case. So for example I ask "I intend to run 30 miles a week on stony forest trails in these. Will they last me for the next six months used that way." If in four months they fall to a thousand pieces then the retailers has broken contract and I am within my rights to request a replacement only as SoGA does not allow for demanding refunds etc?

Surely it should be more important for your feet not to fall apart running 30 miles a week on stony forest trails for six months. (And as you seem to be a little pedantic 30 miles a week for six months is 780 miles).

Why are you so fixated on whether these shoes will last rather than whether or not they actually do their job of protecting your feet as you run?

I have no issue buying reduced price products and that includes my raft of trainers. Some of the sports direct karrimore are fab and offer a real bargain as long as the fit is right. I have bought expensive brands which prompted injury yet ran across wales in cheapo kanadias.
I dont think you can expect to return trainers if you have them more than a few months as you will never prove your use. I doubt any assistant will give you a watertight answer as they cant be sure you will wash and dry them correctly between use and many assistants in discount shops have no idea about their products anyway.
SOGA and the others will be hard to apply if they disintegrate over time but may be easier to prove if for example the sole came off or the stitching failed in only one area where the rest is obviously still in new condition?
