I don't think it was meant like that, but as long as it was bought in the cheapest way possible and you'll use it, IMO that's fine.
If it's on a contract, there's often little difference between iPhone and the more basic one, so that's something to always consider on a 'whole contract cost'
On the wages issue, all I can advise is setting up money out for a few days after wages should go in. I always try to make sure my staff get paid the day before they should, but the advice is not to rely on your bank processing it overnight.

I just don't understand what the relevance of the cost of my phone is that's all. I haven't said I can't afford my bills each month or that I'm in debt or that I'm struggling to get by, just that this month I had planned to go out for the day with my daughter but because his wages haven't yet gone in I can't go in case he doesn't get paid properly seen as I don't know what his wages will actually be. I have stuff to pay for over the weekend and if I had gone out for the day yesterday it would have eaten into that money, so it's a good job I didn't go out as he's still not been paid. I was just asking what time BACS payments are supposed to go in by, so I don't understand why someone was asking if my phone was really really cheap.
And thank you for the advise but as my partner is paid 4 weekly it means his pay date changes every month so I rearranging direct debit dates wouldn't have any effect, and was never my original problem anyway, I don't have any bills that I cannot pay nor any direct debits due out until next week.
Sorry if I'm sounding short and perhaps I am being overly sensitive but people keep commenting on the issue of how I manage my finances which has nothing to do with what I asked......is it normal for a BACS payment to go in after 5pm on a Friday.
Many thanks to those who have replied and tried to answer my question, just so you know he still hasn't been paid and seen as it's bank holiday on Monday too I'm guessing he won't be paid until Tuesday now despite the fact his boss has told him his payday is 4 weekly on a Friday.0 -
If it definitely hasn't credited by now then I expect you're right that it won't go in before Tuesday. It could be a bank issue but it's more likely that whoever does the payroll has made a mess of it and submitted the file late - does he know if other people have been paid yet?0
-
No apparently his colleagues haven't been paid either and they usually get theirs on the Friday night after banks close too. My partners saying that his boss says she uses a company to sort out the wages and the payslips which is why he always gets his payslip late as she never gets them from this company on time. He's yet to talk to her today about not being paid yet as she's not answering her phone. It just all seems odd to me, being paid after banks close, pay slips always being late, and now not even being paid on the right day.0

Is the company in trouble?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

if this is a Limited Company, you can check if anything has been recorded recently that might give a clue that they are in trouble, i use webcheck(companies house) or duedil.com or . it does take time for info to be updated but it might help.0

Being paid after bank branches close is not an issue as you've been told a number of times on both threads - banks have always processed transactions outside branch opening times. What is an issue this time is not being paid at all. The most likely explanation is an error by the payroll company, but there's certainly a possibility of cashflow issues at your partner's employer.0

Yes indeed but unfortunately the OP seems fixated on this one point and doesn't seem to like anybody pointing out the wider related issues.
As I've mentioned, if the employer pays later than contracted then they are liable for any unavoidable costs the OP's partner incurs.
However he need to think very carefully about the implications of making an issue on this point particularly without union backup.
He needs to seriously consider whether the company is "dodgy" and / or is running into financial difficulties. If so then he needs to get out of there as soon as he can find another job.
If they are basically "OK" but just a bit shambolic with administration then he and the OP need somehow to get in a position where a few days either way is not causing an immediate problem. I appreciate that a four weekly pay cycle (even if the firm stick to it) is difficult when most regular expenses are monthly. However, with care this can be addressed.0 -
I appreciate all the advise regarding the company and the surrounding issues of not being paid on the correct day etc, and yes it does seem as though I am "fixating" on the issue of BACS payments going through after banking hours. My partner is actually looking for a new job anyway and I am aware that all these issues could be pointing to the company being in financial difficulties which is why I was asking. My partner has been told by his boss it's not an issue and is a BACS payment etc, and I am fearful that she is having to wait until end of the day takings have been received until she can afford to pay her employees, hence why his payment would be later in the day (or in this months case the following morning). I was asking whether BACS payments do go in after banking hours so that he could ask her directly whether there were issues with his payment or any future problems as such but if BACS payments can go in out of banking hours then his question is pointless as she will just say she has processed the wages and they will go in when they go in.
I am getting conflicting information though as people on here are saying yes you can receive a BACS payment after banking hours however when I asked at the bank yesterday they said no it's not a BACS payment then. So I'm still none the wiser on my original question but thank you for all the advise around all the issues involved.0
