Pro rata, Bank Holidays?

I've recently semi retired to three days a week, working Weds, Thurs and Fridays. Someone else now comes in and does the Monday and Tuesday. We both had our wages docked for two days at Easter, one by 40% and the other 60%. I would have thought that the two days would cancel each other out and wages would stay the same!
Really don't understand this and as I chose the days I work I'm not bothered about the other person gaining the Mondays at all during the rest of the year.
The only ones to gain at Easter were the bosses! As we both took home less money. The person that does the accounts is confused by pro rata too!
Really could do with some help, in very simple plain
English please!

What's the standard holiday entitlement of a full time member of staff? 28 days including bank holidays? Is the business closed on bank holidays or do staff have to take them off as leave?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
I work part time 2 days a week - Thursdays and Fridays.
My hours are 45.71% of a full time employee
Therefore, my holiday entitlement is 45.71% of a full time employee's entitlement
A full timer's holiday entitlement is 24 days, plus 8 days bank holiday. (32 days in total) A day is 7 hours
My entitlement is expressed in hours.
A full timer therefore gets 32 x 7 hours = 224 hours
I get 45.71% of 224 hours = 102.39 Hours (rounded down to 102 hours
If a bank holiday falls on a Thursday or Friday, I have that day off, taking the hours from my allowance of 102 hours.
If it's a bank holiday Monday, I've been allowed time for that holiday in the 102 hours, and take the time off when I want .
I don't have money taken away from me
The way my employer works things out was also the method used by my previous employer, both large organisations.
I hope this will help you explain the situation to your bosses and the wages clerk!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Holiday for full time employees is 28 days which includes bank holidays. The business closes at bank holidays and over Christmas till the new year.
I understand it all in a very simple way, ie where I used to take a week off, 5 days, now I take 3 days off for that weeks holiday, if you see what I mean!
The percentages I'm afraid confuse me very much!Genie

you to ask them the holiday entitlement for your part time roll and how they work it out and implement it based on the full time allowances
if you go from 5 days(equal hours) to 3 days you are entitled to 3/5 of the full timers.
Post what they say and we can look to see if it is at least the legal statutory minimum and complies with the part time regulations.
how any other company does it, not that helpful as there are loads of ways to get it right, as well as loads of ways to get it wrong.0 -

The normal way to do this would be to pay 3/5 salary each week.
allocate the BH that fall on your work days, allocate the days that you need to cover the xmas break the rest become floating days.
3/5 of 28 is 16.8 days.
if they have deducted days then you have not used your holiday allowance so still have those days off.
as previous post ask ho they work it out and report back.0 -
They are also saying that the other person doing the Monday and Tuesday will lose 60% of every bank holiday Monday and it will be given to me? Personally I don't want it! But it has to do with the job share? It doesn't sit with me very well to have that happen to her.
They have divided it up and I work 60% and the other lady works 40%. ..... the poor wages clerk has never dealt with pro rata before and admits to being very confused. We can't understand why we both lost money at Easter.Genie

Annoyingly wages clerk only comes in once or twice a month, so may see her next week or week after.
We are trying to do some research first so we know what questions we should ask plus what is going on!Genie

as I say ask what the calculations are and why they are like that.
They should just pay you as normal for 3days/2days and use up holiday allowance.
You should not lose pay just holiday.0 -
