Sound Problems

Just recently, any sound played back through my pc, jitters every now and then. When it happens all the time, it's not always at the same spot on audio tracks. It has also happened on Youtube videos. My sound device is a Xonar DGX sound card, which is fairly new, and does sound great, most of the time. Anyone any ideas?

In the first instance, remove and reinstall the sound card drivers.
Use a driver from one supplied on the install disc or from the Asus web site and not one that Windows may find and install for it.
If the motherboard has a sound chip, ensure that is disabled in the BIOS.
If the problem continues, check in Device Manager / Sound Devices and see if more than one device is shown.0 -
Thanks Exo. I didn't know exactly where to look in the BIOS, but disabled onboard Audio in the CMOS, and it seems to have worked. Funny thing is, I only installed the Xonar card in the first place, because the onboard one had packed in, and until recently, didn't have any problems. Could it be the onboard one is working again, and that's why it's conflicting?0

A dedicated sound card will always be better than an onboard sound chip.
In my experience, onboard sound chips can be a bit flaky after time resulting in interference or loss of channels which may be intermittent.
If you have disabled the onboard sound chip in the CMOS then that is fine as it will change the BIOS setting.

Seems to have gone bad again. I know my pc is full of rubbish, and there are a lot of processes running. Could this be affecting playback, so the playback is actually 'stuttering', and the sound is fine (if that makes sense). It's really annoying now. It's the same when I play video on youtube, etc.0

All progams running automatically at startup will be using up the computer's resources.
To check the processes running at startup, open task manager, select the process tab and note how many are running.
To check programs set to run automatically, open msconfig / startup tab and see what is running.
This may help to identify the programs.

Always reboot the computer before immediately checking for processes and programs running.
It will be helpful to know some of your system details ie CPU and amount of RAM and the operating system in use.
Post back if unsure how to check any of the above.0 -
You could run thru the sticky explaining how to clean up your PC, may help matters. Certainly shouldn't make anything worse.Friendly greeting!0
