Need a new laptop: Advice please!

Hello.
Hubby needs a new laptop that he will be using for uni coursework.
His requirements are:
Windows 7, he has heard terrible things about windows 8 and is not tech savvy.
Word and powerpoint are essential, office 365 desirable but can add it on voa a download at a later time.
Needs to be new, we have a budget of £300, and it needs to have a good enough spec to last 3 years (hopefully)! Can anyone offer any pointers as to which lappy we should be looking at please?
Will use you tube on it, but not going to be used for gaming.
