Health and Social care undergraduate help and advice needed regards UCAS points :)

Hello everyone

I was wondering if I could seek out some advice...

I am 20 years old, currently studying at college on a level 3 Health and Social Care Diploma on year 1. I have previously studied level 2 (at distinction* grade) and level 1 (at pass grade)

the problem is that I am currently unable to progress due to finance problems (having discussed with one's tutor and abysmal careers advice, it would cost me stupid money to progress (several thousand, and that's not factoring in travel costs) I have previously used up my savings on the past few years at college... I have been trying to find a job at the present moment in time; but have had no success. I am currently looking in to working as a teaching assistant or support worker either in a mainstream or specialist education area (for adults and children with disabilities) or as a nursery worker, with the potential to be a teacher later on.

As it goes, I have found that looking at undergraduate courses, I would be better off financially if I went onto a course such as an undergraduate diploma. I have however been struggling to make heads or tails of the UCAS points system and have no idea what I would get... can anyone help me?

My qualifications are as such:

BTEC Level 1 Diploma Caring Across the Lifespan (pass grade)

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (distinction star grade)

OCR Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills (ITQ) (QCF)

GCSE English Language grade B

Functional skills maths and english level 2 (pass grade each)

I also have personal development (level 1 and 2 qualifications at pass)

I also have for my level 3 diploma a predicted distinction grade overall and a predicted c grade for my maths.

any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Have you thought about nursing? NHS will give you a bursary and pay your fees.

Have you looked at the site that gives the tariffs, can't remember what it is but you could google it.

If you look at the ucas website it will tell you the pointe equivalent. Or phone the Uni you are interested in and ask them whether they will accept what you have got. Good luck.

Is it the actual BTEC? Reason I ask is I was studying the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care as work based learning and it was NVQ/BTEC as apprantly they've scrapped the BTEC? The diploma I was doing was a waste of time as most unis didn't know what it was and didn't accept it and the few that did were few and far between :( I would suggest identifying the course and uni you are interested in and contact them direct which is what I had to do- I gave up in the end!

I did a quick search for you on UCAS and you could apply for the BSC in Adult Nursing with your BTEC , if you are doing the triple, which is 18 Units in total.

If you check out this link it details the entry requirements etc.

    http://search.ucas.com/course/entryrequirements/8592/nursing?Vac=1&AvailableIn=2014&Query=nursing&ret=providers#coursedetailsmenu

If you are only doing 12 units, there are other Universities that will accept that, just with higher grades.

I should warn you though that there are huge changes happening with BTEC this September.
    • No upgrading of assignments from previous years
    • No multiple opportunities to resubmit assignments
    • No feedback from your tutors if you fail an assignment
Edexcel have disabled the link to the new Assessment Guidelines, or I would give you the link.

I am graduating in 5 months from the adult nursing degree. I am a very mature student and went in with a BTec national diploma health and social care level 3.

    Hi,
Here's a link which will help you work out the UCAS points value of each of your qualifications.
    http://www.ucas.com/how-it-all-works/explore-your-options/entry-requirements/tariff-tables
I recommend that you look at courses you may consider doing in the future to work out what qualifications you will need. You could also email the universities for advice.
Also I recommend you check what qualification you will get if you only completing one year of your present level 3 course. It may be that your qualification may not be a full diploma so will not give you enough UCAS points. Good luck!
