Just a quick heads up that hand baggage allowance on Thomas cook holidays appears to have shrunk to 5Kg. Our cabin size frameless luggage weighs nearly half of that empty and can only be half full before breaking the limit. I do not know what the "excess"would be but I think an awful lot of people may be caught out . i will report back on chaos at check in if a lot of people start emptying cases and stuffing their pockets .

As suspected we had to wait in the queue while a young couple with two children unpacked and re-packed their luggage trying to meet the restriction . I'm also unimpressed that after an "online " check in and printing my own boarding passes we waited over 1/2 an hour to "bag drop" and be handed new boarding passes and discarding what we had printed . Still it was marginally better than standard process where ALL Thomas cook departures are served by the same check in desks . If four flights leave close together thats 1,000 people in a queue all worrying about missing their flight . No I didn't actually count them . It's beginning to make Ryanair look well organised and reasonable . Suffice to say we will not be using Thomas cook again .

It's been 5kg for a long time. It was 5kg when I travelled with them in December 2011.

I think you get 7kg with some of the more expensive hotels but they are very keen on weight. They will ask to look at the piece of hand luggage and if it is fairly large, weigh it. My friend was using a biggish handbag but had stuffed a couple of books into it. She was made to put them into her hold luggage. We use Kindles now!!

They will also only allow ONE piece of hand luggage therefore a ladies' handbag has to be put into the carry-on bag.

Yes, it has been 5kg for several years - also check the size, pretty sure it was (and maybe still is) smaller than most.

How do you have a bargain holiday in 5kg hand baggage, how much does it cost and why on earth would you want to?

Perhaps you can just take hand luggage if you want to take advantage of the low price.
I'm sure it is £75 return for the long haul destinations, but why let the truth get in the way of a good story?

They call people to the front if the flight is soon to close.

I've had some inexpensive flights with them, so can't complain.
