I was a person who had my account compromised last year on Paypal. I received an email from someone saying "Can I just confirm that you are happy with paying for this mobile phone?" They said the buyer had contacted them directly after winning the auction to arrange local collection of the phone and wanted it done urgently. I informed him immediately that I was nothing to do with that buyers account and that my paypal account had clearly been hacked. I advised him not to hand over the item. He told me I was too late as the person buying it had been to collect it. My paypal account had been debited over £400 so I was naturally fuming. Contacted PayPal and I can honestly say they were excellent, immediately refunded my account and told me that my account had been compromised as the buyer had bought the item direct from the seller outside of the auction. So the seller clearly lost out because he'd given the phone to someone and then got charged for the refund to me and therefore lost both the phone and a load of cash.

It sucks, but that's why you need to stick to the rules.

And another thing! I sold an ink cartridge on eBay last year and the person buying it raised a complaint that it was in fact empty instead of brand new. I knew they were lying as I had checked it before it was sent, but eBay found in their favour and I was forced to refund the cheeky g!t!

How do you know that your testing didn't use the last of the ink?

Ebay has created a great secondary market for our goods but like everything the scumbags are aware of all the loopholes for scamming the unwary.

Anything over £50 I would rather sell it face to face and normally do a collection only, or if I must post it it will always be following the sellers protection rules to the letter. I never ever do buy it now, my auction will always run to the end and I refuse all offers to close early.

These days if its a big item Hermes Couriers are great value and have a signature on delivery option for an extra £1.
