Selling my rockery
Comments
-
When I bought my house, the front garden came with a fairly large rockery which my sister persuaded me to keep rather than asking the previous owner to take away, as she might have wanted it or because its worth a lot of money.
I now want to get rid of it because I need to do work to the house. Any ideas how much something like this will sell for, they are very heavy to lift as well.

Surely the answer to your question lies in taking a slightly better picture, minus watering can etc, putting the rock garden stone (not rockery) on ebay and seeing where the bidding goes?
Make it clear that it's buyer collects and the job's a good 'un.

That isn't a rockery - that's a few big stones. A rockery is a whole embankment of stones, arranged, stacked.
You've got some random big stones.
I know nothing about gardening .... but if I owned them I'd be either stacking them in the corner and forgetting them, or offering them for free somewhere.0 -
Too be honest I had more and better looking rocks and failed to even give them away. Piled up now behind a garage. Rockeries seem to have have gone out of style.
ps Decking will be going the same way, expect piles of wood on gumtree soon.0 -
The previous vendor before the same completed said he would like to take the rocks with him and would give me a few hundred for it (I guess he paid that much for it and became attached to them).
As he was a hoarder (a civilised one!) his family couldn't take everything in time so in still clearing out some junk from the rear garden. Anyway, now I'm slightly annoyed cos I kept them as my sister said they would like nice and would take them eventually but she hasn't got the means to collect/lift and she's moving AND we're try to make a carriage driveway!
If its not worth much then I'll just dump in the rear garden (somehow) as I'm not fully appreciating it. But I thought it might be worth something because he offered money but probably sentimental value monetary value.
As for the hedge, the whole garden is overgrown. It's taken me months just to clear some of the rear! But we are slowly clearing the house we recently bought.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
Hey....previous vendor called it a rockery, I know didley squat about rockeries and I just go on what he told me!
Maybe the rockery was put in by a rookie

These are the two options I'd advise - ebay or local Facebook sellers' page if you want some money; Freegle if you just want them gone.0 -

It's not awful. I've seen much worse. Some people here are just harsh.
'Rockery' is simply the name non-gardeners give to rock gardens. You don't hear about the 'rockery' at Wisley!
Trying to sell them first would cost nowt. I'd have a go at that first, speaking as someone who once collected stones from a considerable distance, rather than pay garden centre prices. Then, if they don't sell Freegle, Freecycle, Gumtree or WHY.;)0 -

I agree with this - they're rather nice stones - better than many in the garden centres.
Laid well and planted with appropriate plants, they would make a great rock garden.0 -
My guess is that, if you are lucky, you'll find someone via freecycle who will take it away and tidy the area for free, but not give you any cash for it. It does seem quite an odd object to try to sell. At Garden Centre prices, there might be £40 of plants there, and the same for the stone, maybe a bit more. But, the plants aren't in prime condition, and the stone is... well, just stone. Depending where you live, it's a cheap commodity, and those stones aren't "special".
I'd give you 50p for the watering can, 75p if you can find the rose that goes with it!0
