Instant hot water, good or bad
I have Buderus Logamax Plus GB112 29KW G20 condensing central heating boiler. Attached to the system is a Wilo Star Z15 28w 230w 50hz 1 max 0,3 A which I believe to be a pump. This is plugged into an electricity supply with a timer attached. This timer when "on" provides almost instant hot water anywhere in the house. When "of" the taps around the house have to run a considerable time before running with hot water. I now understand that this Wilo pump runs the "secondary return system" after asking about this on another site.
For background the house is in Luxembourg and is 11 years old. It is a small semi detached house of 250 square meters of living space set over three floors and a 100 square meter basement/garage area where the boiler is located.
The Wilo pump At 28w sounds as if it might cost quite a bit to run. However I then have to offset that against wasted water if I have to run a tap for some time to get hot water.!
I have had this system in place since the house was built and only now am I trying to understand the cost implications.
Do any plumbers, heating engineers have a view on this.
Thank you

The cost of running a 28w pump is not high, it will run for 35 hours using 1kWh - cost in UK about 12pence.For background the house is in Luxembourg and is 11 years old. A total floor area of 350 m2 (about 3,800 square feet) would not be my definition of a 'small semi'.0 -

Try it for say a week left on and see how much energy it uses.
Then try it for a week off and get comparative figures.

Hello Cardew,
Small semi, sorry I should have added "by Luxembourg Standards" or "mainland Europe Standards"
I keep forgetting how small the standard house is in the UK. Or perhaps I want to forget!!!
The house has a footprint of 100 sq meters. There are other semis in our road built at the same time that are larger with a footprint of 120sq meters. The detached houses have footprints around 200 sq meters. These are all about average for the turn of the century builds. There is pressure on space like in all country's but you in the UK having never measured property by its actual size always using "number of bedrooms" as the benchmark have suffered accordingly. That's not to mention you live on a very crowded Island unlike the rest of Europe.
Sorry for going on at such boring length. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
