Tax credits

I rang up last week to tell them I started a job earning £1938. Hubby still gets income based jsa and we have 3 children one of which gets high dla. The wages are low as it's just dinner time at school so 6 hours a week. We have had our normal payment on 29th then an extra payment today which is almost as high as our normal payment...should I be worried? I wouldn't have thought by earning some wages I would get more tax credits...seems wrong

If your husband still gets income based JSA then your tax credits won't be affected - you'll still get max CTC. But your husband's JSA will reduce because of your income, has he told them?

It won't make much difference surely as I overestimated to tax credits and am only working 6 hours a week and am not on his Jsa claim as I claim carers allowance.

The paperwork has come and I'm going to have to ring them as it's wrong. They have left off carers allowance which is continuing and have husbands income on there that he won't have this year as he has been unemployed since July last year.

Your earnings won't affect tax credits (but tell them anyway if you're ringing them). If you only get CTC they you can earn up to £16k and still get max CTC, and if you get income based JSA you get the max anyway.

But they will affect your partner's income based JSA so it's them you need to tell, or rather he does. Probably best to ring them to avoid overpayment, I think with JSA you need to tell them as soon as possible.
