Bowel problems!! Please help

Hi, hope someone can please help.
I need an operation but will have to wait 3 years on NHS (The operation is the insertion of sacral nerve stimulation - a device to make the muscles in my bowel operate normal) I was quoted by my surgeon £1,600 in March. I have been trying to contact him since, He got back to me today & has said the price is £4,200, even though the letter he sent me in march clearly stated £1,600. Any advice on what i can do would be appreciated. Tia
Or even if anyone has any experience with a sacral nerve stimulator.
Is there another way to get total funding on the NHS
The amount im being charged is only a temporary device that they trial for a week! Then if i get good results, I will be having a permanent device implanted. Again with the potential of no NHS funding 😩

It looks like it is passed by NICE, but only certain surgeons can do the operation, so it may be that your local PCT wont pay for it to be done, as the success rate isn't that fantastic, with complications from the implants. I would seek another consultation and ask him why it has changed. You may be able to find an alternative qualified consultant who will do it for you on the NHS. Speak to your GP to see if you can be re referred to a hospital out of your area.
I feel for you, my OH had part of his bowel removed years ago and was botched up. Suffers from Diverticular disease chronically. So far tonight he has been on the loo 9 times, since I got in at 6pm. It wipes you out.
Good luck, you shouldn't have to wait 3 years for an operation. My sisters Husband goes 150 miles away to an NHS hospital for knee surgery on a tumour. It was only because the waiting list was a hell of a lot shorter.0 -
Thanks so much for the advice.
Everything just seems crazy as no specialist will help, it was Nottingham hospital that has diagnosed it so i just get told to speak with them! Seem to be hitting a brick wall.
Oh my gosh, your poor OH! This is exactly what im scared of & want to eliminate my only other option first 😩
I shall defo stamp my feet at my next GP appointment, Now you have said I can go further afield 😁
Sounds like your sisters OH is suffering too
Hope they both get sorted soon :beer:0
