If it's the first deposit, you may have to wait until next month for a larger amount.

Could someone who's *only* done internal transfers between accounts last month confirm that they've got the interest OK (when they do, obviously!).

Internal transfers are fine you will get the interest. The only ones as far as I know that don't allow internal transfers are Nationwide Flexdirect and Yorkshire/Clydesdale Current Account Direct.
I actually received a few pence (44p) on each on 2nd April as I opened on the first day."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0 -
