Switching from Southern Electric discount tariff

My present supplier for both gas & electric is Southern Electric. The discount tariff I'm on ends tomorrow & they would revert me to a standard tariff. I've already set in motion to change supplier. But, so I thought, the supplier I'm with was bound to continue to supply at the discount tariff until the transfer is completed. SE say I'm wrong & will start charging me the hefty standard tariff from tomorrow. Am I wrong? I can't find anything in SE's termination letter or contract. If there is anything more than just a guidleine can someone point me to it so I can challenge SE. Thanx.

Why do you think that?
The tariff ends, end off.
Do you expect a shop to continue to sell an item that has increased in price because you are going to buy it elsewhere because of the price increase?0 -

To be fair to the OP, some suppliers do actually do this, Npower definitely do, EDF I think do, not sure who else.0 -
Yes, EDF do and they confirmed this in a standard letter they sent out when advising that my current tariff was coming to an end.A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion0

How long ago did you appoint a new supplier.
The rules are that the new supplier must have contacted the existing supplier before the tariff ends (and the switch must go ahead within a reasonable timeframe).
How do you know you have been moved to a higher tariff??? :huh:0 -

It differs for each supplier though. With Npower, for example, the new supplier can contact the existing supplier within 20 working days after the tariff ends, it doesn't have to be before.0 -

Yes, of course suppliers may have any terms they want, as long as they at least meet the rules set by the regulator.0
