Taking name off joint Current A/C

DH and I have an old joint current account - not our main account and TBH can't actually remember why we opened it.
Anyway DH wants t use it as his own current account as he has had enough of the ever changing Ts&Cs of his own bank.
Probably better if I take my name off it - does anyone know if this is reasonably easy or is he going to effectively have to go through the application process for a new account?

I think you can easily do this if the account is in credit.0

Usually possible to change a sole account to joint but not the other way round. If he wants an account in his sole name he will have to go through an account application process again.0

you should be able to change it back as long as one of the other posters have said, it is in credit. however i believe that you may have to both go into a branch together to change it though as both parties will need to consent to the change.MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0

thanks all - account is in credit, might first see what happens if I ask to have my name taken off and just leave DH's name on it.0

I can tell you that Yorkshire Bank won't do it, even if it's in credit...the joint account has to be closed and a sole account opened. Halifax will do it, as confirmed by their T&Cs.
But...why not say which bank it is (unless it's a secret?), and then someone will either post from personal experience or point you to the relevant condition in the T&Cs...because all you're getting at the moment is speculation and guesswork!

As per previous post, knowing which bank would help as posters are just guessing otherwise - HSBC for example won't do this ("We will not accept instructions to convert a joint account to a sole account, even where those instructions are provided by all joint account holders")0

Barclays did it for me, although 10 years ago now. When I split up with my ex-husband, I asked them to remove him from the joint account, he simply had to go into a branch and sign a form and that was it. It wasn't a big deal.
Things may have changed now of course.0 -
Had no problem doing this with Santander 123 current account. Went into branch and both OH and I signed form to transfer from joint account to sole account in my name. Account number remained the same.
Should add, may require appointment. We went in to make appointment, but were told that advisor was available to see us immediately.0 -
I had my dad's bank take my mother's name off their joint account recently, when she died.
It used to be "Mr G Dogparent and Mrs P Dogparent".
Natwest were very good and immediately did as we asked.
Soon, my dad's new debit card arrived with the renamed account thereupon:
"Mr G Dogparent and".
<Sigh>I am one of the Dogs of the Index.0 -
It is Nationwide - still a building soc I think but when it comes to current accounts then I suspect they are all the same. Will give them a ring tomorrow to see what they say. Just trying to avoid the palaver of opening a new account ..0
