Silly me bought light coloured carpets for the upstairs of my home.
need, i say a year on they are absolutelt filthy thanks to various trademens tramping up and down my stairs.
I want to buy a really good crapet cleaner prefably a steam one, can anyone recommedn a decent one?
I was thinking of hiring one but realised I 'd prefer to buy one so it is always on hand.
thanks

I think the Polti Vaparetto is supposed to be really really good - I've always hankered after one myself!
Other than that, we have a Bissell Big Green Clean Machine - it's one where you use detergent with water and it has a big suction hose to suck all the water and dirt back out of the carpet - it's fabulous! I'm not sure if you can still buy them though, cos mine must be about 5 years old.

I have a vax carpet cleaner (not the vax wet and dry vacuum) which i am about to assemble, so i will report back when i have tackled my undoubtedly filthy floors!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

We've got the upright one 'deluxe' model (where you get a hose attachement) and we are very impressed. In fact it's embarrasing how much dirt it picks up. The first time we used it the water was black, eww. Good thing about this range is that you don't have to dry it out afterwards.
The basic model was on offer for £80 in B&Q this weekend.:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:0 -
Used it today and OH BOY the FILTH! I think they all leave a little moisture in the carpet, but you put water on using the cleaner, then suck it up, and keep going over the area until you can see no more water being sucked up.
I got mine as part of a set in Great universal catalogue, (because i can pay in a few monts' time), with a vacuum cleaner and a handheld vac as well, so my house ought to be spotless (?)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

rabailioness. We found our steam cleaner very effective. It certainly does not leave a lot of water about. It leaves it a little damp and warm and dries very quickly. Of course it depends how long you leave the cleaner in any particular spot. If its very dirty I should suggest not trying to achieve too much at one go.
Our cleaner is a cheap and cheerful Earlex from one of the DIY's - can't remember which.0 -
I went the easy route...
Pop down to your local Homebase and have a look at their "Rug Doctor". It costs about £13.99 plus extra for the shampoo (about £6), so it works out about £20 for 24 hours.
They're really good and have got all the stains out our place the last time we used it. We've got cream carpets too, and they're due another run-over
For how often we actually clean the carpets, and for the lack of space we have, this works out the best option for us.
Hope this helps!
