Am I able to rent a flat with HB without visiting it first?

I'll try and be concise!

Basically, I'm in the process of sorting out some ESA documents and waiting for my response from the mandatory reconsideration and so on.

I need to move out of London to somewhere I can live alone with HB (due to the nature of my medical issues).

I have no car and cannot just go somewhere miles away (possibly even hundreds of miles away) just to visit, view a property and come back.

So, would I be able to rent a property pre-emptively (say, in Manchester) without having to leave London first? So it would be ready and waiting for me to take single trip up there and I'm done.

I understand this may sound silly (not visiting the place beforehand) however I don't have the option.

Thanks for reading. =)

  • Not silly really. Could a friend go for you and take pictures etc?

I would be very weary of renting somewhere without seeing it. If you are reliant on benefits you are going to be limited to the lower end of the market, so even more chance of you ending up in some kind of hovel. A cheap ticket to Manchester would not be wasted!

I completely agree. For your sake you really should see the place before signing any contract. You don't want to end up somewhere absolutely awful that could make your health worse.

I know it's hard when on benefits but is there any way you could get together the money for a cheap advance fare to Manchester? Perhaps by coach?
