I've never heard of the docs being asked for, unless they are writing it off. You've mentioned 4 damaged panels so far, has the investigator twigged to more and their communication to you has just been poor?

Name one insurer that owns one salvage yard? I know a couple that looked into it around credit crunch years but they didnt proceed

General Accident used to own Auto Economics in Kent who repaired write offs.

No one except me and the police has seen my car yet! That is why I thought it was strange for the insurance to ask for my original docs, as I understood that like they would write it off...

Motor Investigator has not seen my car and his report was purely about what happened and how it happened. He also checked all my docs and took the copies.

No one has any info on the damage and no checks have been done. All my insurance knows about the damage is what I've told them after I've seen my car yesterday.

The police was happy with me to drive the car away and they told me on my arrival that my car is in a very good condition with few minor scratches... and that is exactly how my car was when I seen it.

If I owned a £17k car, had been mugged and saw a suspicious vehicle driving around my house then you'd bet i'd be taking precautions to prevent a very expensive piece of kit stolen!
A wheel clamp and remove a front wheel putting it on a stand instead.

    See them rob that!

It's fairly common in my experience for the Insurer to request sight of the original documents in the event of a theft claim especially one there could possibly be a query on indemnity.

They may well want the key to check the data on it eg the last time it was used to ensure it corresponds with what happened.

OP are you aware your Insurers would have probably paid to replace the locks to the car without affecting your no claims bonus if you had informed them after the mugging

We'll... funny you say that as my front left tyre has been deflated and my sons Yamaha bike was chained to the same wheel... That night at 4am I also called police and reported suspicious vehicle...

The insurance already seen the original docs, but now they want me to send it off to them and I find that very uncomfortable... as that would leave me with no docs, no keys and no car... everything will be with the insurance!

If you don't want to send them the documents then don't it will likely just mean everything grinds to a halt.

Incidently was it your car used in the Channel smash and grab?

A host of new recycling/ environmental laws put off the clients I was in talks with hence asking which insurers currently own any salvage yards

Looking at Auto Economic's website they claim they are independent family owned business but the Ltd company that owns the domain name (Auto Economics Ltd) was dissolved last year so would require more digging to see what the history is

OP, did you report the theft of the keys to your insurance company before the car was nicked?

And have you changed your house locks yet?
