Gas & electricity average monthly bills

Hi all,

Apologies if there is another thread somewhere but I can't find it.

How much do people pay each month for gas and electric?

We are a couple, no children moving to a 3 bed semi detached house in wales. We work full time during the day. The house has had new double glazed windows recently fitted and a new boiler fitted (not combi). I have estimated £100 pm to cover both gas and electric.

Do you think this is reasonable?

Thanks

  • Will vary hugely based on personal habits and how much you're actually paying per unit and standing charge, but I would have thought £100 a month was enough for your sutuation (possibly less even). Paying £80 a month, 2 people, detached 4 bed, home a lot more than you it sounds (and heat a lot during the day).

Do you currently use pedal-powered dynamos and braziers? Or is Her Majesty paying the current bills? (Romantic that you met in such a situation.)

If not, try asking whoever pays the bills at your current abodes - that'll give you a more accurate idea over what a comfort level you are accustomed to costs than random averages.

The property we are buying is empty so unable to ask. The vendors purchased it as an investment. I'm just after rough estimates to put my mind at ease that what we have budgeted would be enough. Thanks

The supplier will have records of the previous owners usage, but they may not match your own usage habits. It's a start though.

or look up the EPC to give you space, water, and lighting costs, which will account for around 70% of your usage.

    thanks for tips and replies
  • I seem to be paying around £114 a month for dual fuel gas and electricity in a three bed terrace at the moment.
