    For those people like me who aren't familiar with some of the more obscure acronyms:-

    YNAB = YouNeedABudget.com

    Google is my friend.

    Did you download the free trial? I highly recommend you do. I thought I was doing just fine with spreadsheets...I wasnt.

    So, I can put my entire income in to YNAB at the beginning of the month, even though it has not arrived in my bank account yet?
    This is what is confusing me.

    No you shouldn't.

    If you do not have money to pay all of your bills you can't trick the system. You desperately need to get ahead of your bills, and that's what YNAB can help you with. Your deficit is a problem, you need to get ahead of it, but tricking YNAB into thinking you have the money is not the way to do it, saving money is :)

    I agree with the earlier poster who advised you to check out their website for support and online classes, I would recommend that you sign up for one of the free webinars that they hold frequently - Getting started with YNAB is a very good one for beginners.

    And a free copy of the software is awarded to one lucky person at the end of each session.

    Hi Katyp - I have been using YNAB for a just under a month. When I started I put all my starting balances for my accounts and worked out what I had left to pay (budget for) I have been paid today, this income will be for May so I have budgetted all of that money to the relevant bills, my husband gets paid in 2 weeks time so some catergories I have left blank until he gets paid (the money will not be going out of my account until after he gets paid).

    As others have said go on the site and look and view the webnairs you can ask questions if you don't understand. It is a totally different way of dealing with your money and it took me a little while to get my head around it and actually trust my budget rather than look at my current account, it is so worth it in the end and once you have sussed it you will wonder how you managed without it:D
