Are there any extra charges when buying from the US using a MasterCard? Spending $128 which google says is around £76

I cost in the potential charges when making purchases from outside the EU. As import duty, vat and handling charges add up. Not least that people forget that some of the charges are levied on top of the shipping cost not just the goods value.
